Jabil to develop custom 3D printing materials

Jabil Inc. has opened a materials innovation center in Chaska, Minn., to develop custom materials for additive manufacturing.

Officials of the St. Petersburg, Fla.-based company said Jabil Engineered Materials will speed up product development by evaluating and validating materials, along with machines and processes in an integrated process that matches part performance with application demands.

Jabil Engineered Materials are available through distribution partners, including Chase Plastic Services Inc.

SABIC’s Specialties business aims to further customer growth through new partnership with Chase Plastics

SABIC’s Specialties business has named Chase Plastics as an authorized distribution partner in North America, serving SABIC’s Specialties business customers with specialty engineering thermoplastics in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The partnership, which is effective immediately, enables SABIC’s Specialties business to engage in its strategy of fostering additional growth of its specialties business and enhancing the level of service to its customers with increased access to skilled technical professionals with vast expertise in specialty engineering thermoplastics.

As an authorized distributor, Chase Plastics will offer SABIC’s Specialties business’ complete portfolio of specialty materials, including NORYLTM resins, ULTEMTM resins, LNPTM compounds and the full range of polycarbonate-based, high performance co-polymers. In addition, Chase Plastics will have access to the full range of SABIC’s Specialties business’ global application design and testing resources. Charity gets boost from local business

BAD AXE — A recent timely donation to the Thumb Area Helping Hands helped the organization bring Christmas to additional local families this holiday season.

Thanks to a program called the Chase Plastics Giving Card Campaign, and with help from local company Gemini Plastics, Thumb Area Helping Hands (TAHH) was able to bolster its holiday budget for families in need.

Chase Plastics, Dow bring good works to holiday season

Chase Plastics and the Dow Chemical Co. are doing their part to make the holidays a little brighter.

Chase, a resin distribution firm based in Clarkston, Mich., recently made gifts of $1,000 each to three charities as part of the firm’s Giving Card Campaign.Originally, Chase had planned to make a single donation, officials said, but eventually found three deserving charities. Donations were made to:

• Operation Underground Railroad, a non-profit that assists governments around the world in the rescue of human trafficking and sex trafficking victims with a special focus on children.

• Thumb Area Helping Hands, which this year helped almost 100 families in need of items ranging from household items to Christmas dinner.

• Folds of Honor, which provides scholarships to family of military members who have been killed in the line of duty.

From restaurants to plastics, young CEO plots a course

Tyson Daniels’ journey to plastics company president has followed an unusual path — through the restaurant industry. The 35-year-old owns and leads the small Allentown, Pa., injection molding company Polymer Contours Inc., which he bought in 2015 after serving as director of operations for a local fast food franchisee with seven stores.

While it might sound like a strange transition, Daniels has always had an entrepreneurial bent and had worked around plastics manufacturing.

Resin distributors see success amid challenges of 2018

North American resin distributors are seeing some good things so far in 2018, even if the market is facing some challenges. Most distribution executives contacted for this story said that their firms’ results were up — in dollars or volume in pounds or both — in the first half of the year. Chase Plastics Services Inc. President Kevin Chase said his Clarkston, Mich.-based firm has seen volume up substantially at rates he described as “high single-digit” and three times that of U.S. GDP growth.

Resin distributors need someone behind the wheel

Roll on, 18-wheelers: A shortage of truck drivers is impacting the resin distribution market.

At Chase Plastics Services Inc. in Clarkston, Mich., President Kevin Chase said that his firm “used to be able to get a truck within 24 hours, but now it takes four or five days.” He added that profit margins are being squeezed by higher transportation costs and higher wages for drivers, as well as by raw material cost and volatility.
